Military spouses are oftentimes undervalued in the workforce. According to recent data, over 50% of military spouses are underemployed through skills, hours and/or income. In 2020, 32% of military spouses were unemployed -- three times the national rate. Add to the fact that every time their active duty husband/wife moves, it more than doubles the odds of keeping a military spouse unemployed.
It’s time to honor those who make sacrifices for our country. Military spouses have an incredible amount of transferrable skills to bring to the cybersecurity workforce. They are diversity and inclusion in ACTION who have situational awareness, accountability, are fast learners, are easy adaptors, are outstanding performers under pressure, and have character triumph over adversity. The cybersecurity workforce needs the hardworking, ethical attributes of military spouses, and they should offer moderate to high paying salaries with flexible working hours as a result. This fair treatment would allow military spouses to continue supporting their active-duty significant other as well as add substantial value to the household income.
